 Call to Order

  • The meeting was called to order at 11:41 am by S Taniguchi.

Approval of August Meeting Minutes

  • The minutes of the September 19, 2016 meeting were approved.

Committee Reports

A. Board Advisory/Constitution & Bylaws (Lee Mansfield/Kristie Ching/June Nakamura): no report

B. Board of Certification (Eassie Miller): no report

C. Biosolids/Co-Generation Committee (Greg Arakaki/Melissa Carmichael)

  •  Looking for a venue for joint workshop with Stormwater and Safety – Manoa Grand Ballroom, looking for topics 
  •  Looking to do a tour of Sand Island digester in mid-November/December

D. Collection Systems (Jon Nishimura/Tina Ono): there will be a meeting next month and will finalize the site (Ala Moana) for the conference in early December 2017

 

E. Communications (Mark Goodrowe/Leland Lee/Kapiolani Street):

  • The new email system has been implemented – Kapiolani Street is coordinator 
  • Procedure is to send email blasts to Audrey and Staci for approval and consolidation of massages. With the exception of conference-related announcements, it was suggested that a weekly email of consolidated messages be sent on the same day each week to avoid overloading member’s inboxes.

F. Conference Committee 2017 (Feb 14-16, Puna Kaneakua/Emily Dong):

  • Can companies sponsor speaker gifts? Yes, but no company logo on it
  • Need keynote speakers: Nick Rolovich? Mayor-elect?
  • Website is on-line 
  • Call for abstracts is still open - extended 
  • Exhibitor registration is open
  • A reimbursement guideline/deadline document will be created – pending • There will be 5 preconference tracks: YP, 2 wastewater, 1 water, 1 other

G. Government Affairs (Tim Steinberger/Phil Potter): no report

H. Laboratory (No chairs): no report

I. Membership (Joni Tanimoto):

  • Free membership is not included with Pacific Water Conference registration

J. Pretreatment (Doreann Kaehuaea/Jack Tano):

  • No report

K. Public Education (Lori Morikami/Audrey Haerle):

  • Received award at WEFTEC ceremony
  • Audrey attended the WEF Public Ed Comt meeting in New Orleans
  • Nov 5th – joint presentation to Girl Scouts at Pacific Aviation Museum

L. Research (Roger Babcock/Chad Morrow): no report

M. Safety (Scott McAdam/Carly Kaneko): no report

N. Student Affairs (Jayson Tasaka/Keith Miyashiro): no report

O. Stormwater (Jay Stone/Brad Takenaka):

  • May joint workshop - May 26th is reserved
  • Three presentation categories: Planning and Design, Stormwater Programs, Maintenance/Construction

P. Water Reuse (Martin Roush/Lorna Heller):

  • Conference is Dec 1-2, 2016.
  • Have sent out sponsor letters, working with hotel, program is getting finished
  • Email announcement and registration form will be sent out this week
  • Want to allow credit card charges – Jack Tano will set up CVENT

  • Email inquiry – Operator from CA looking for a job

·Vice-President Report: Audrey Haerle

  • Quarterly luncheon (Oct 5) – 110 attendees, will split profits 50/50 with CMAA
  • Next quarterly Luncheon – early/mid January – includes election of officers, need a wastewater topic

·Federation Matters: Delegate, Sheryl Nojima

  • Sheryl Nojima was sworn in at WEFTEC 2016. Term is 2016-2019. Sheryl is a member of the HOD Strategic Planning Work Group.
  • Lance Manabe was sworn in as a delegate-at-large, he is Vice-Chair of the HOD Membership Working Group, also on the HOD Nominations Committee, also on the WEF Awards Committee
  • Report is attached. Appendices will be posted on the website

·PWO Matters: Jon Baker

  • The team competed in all of the Operations Challenge events this year at WEFTEC
  • Received a Spirit Award
  • Jon to contact Chantel Clark (Aqua Engineers) about participating in HWEA
