Summer 2023

HWEA will be the organization of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals
recognized for preserving and enhancing the water environment in the Pacific Island Region.

The Aqua Engineers ‘ohana and the Hawai’i water industry as a whole lost another great leader with the passing of Guy Moriguchi in March 2023.

Guy was a long-time, active HWEA member having served as PWO Representative from 1995-1998, receiving the 5S Service award in 1998, being recognized with the William D. Hatfield Award commendation for outstanding operator performance and professionalism in 1999, and the 25-year HWEA service award in 2012.

Guy was the calm voice of reason and stability in the very worst of events which allowed the rest of us to focus on the tasks at hand when all else seemed to be breaking loose. “Mr. Fixit” could Mc-Moriguchi almost any mechanical fix, whether tinkering with cars or repairing a submersible pump and he went out of his way to mentor others in his craft – even engineers.

Guy’s time at the County of Kaua’i plus the 29+ years at Aqua Engineers totaled more than 40-years in the water and wastewater industry. His selflessness and willingness to help were evident in his countless interactions and contributions to the profession, particularly in the development of operators. Those contributions will be remembered as much as his smile and signature laughter.

On behalf of the HWEA community, Mahalo! to Guy and the Moriguchi family, thank you for letting us be a part of his life.
