right and early on a gorgeous Saturday morning, a group of HWEA members excitedly gathered at the He’eia Fishpond, ready to take on whatever task lay ahead (well, at least that’s what they thought!). After a traditional oli chant, the volunteers were informed that their mission for the day was to fill buckets with rocks and spread them out to build a walkway on top of the wall.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, the volunteers embraced the challenge and worked tirelessly to achieve their goal. With teamwork and determination, they scooped, carried, and spread rocks until the walkway began to take
shape before their eyes.
Once the job was complete, the volunteers had the opportunity to learn more about the He’eia Fishpond, its vital role in the community, and reflect on the meaningful experience they had just shared. And what better way to end a
day of hard work than with a delicious lunch provided by the gracious hosts?
Overall, the fishpond volunteering event was a big success thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of our HWEA volunteers. Their hard work and positive spirit truly made a difference and left a lasting impact on the He’eia Fishpond
and the community it serves.
