HWEA will be the organization of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals
recognized for preserving and enhancing the water environment in the Pacific Island Region.

City and County of Honolulu, Stormwater Quality Division organized Pearl Harbor Bike Path Cleanup on April 20 2024 in celebration of Earth Month. The City & County of Honolulu, Navy & Military Personnel, several Rotary Clubs, numerous nonprofits and caring businesses join forces twice a year to help keep the path clean and cleared for our community.

Participants learned about water quality and best management practices to reduce pollution going into the waterways.  A total of 2.66 tons of trash was collected from 10 cleanup sites located along 5 miles of pearl harbor bike path and beyond. Before the trash collection, the roads division also collected 1.44 tons of metals and 9.87 tons of trash.

HWEA partnered with councilmember Radiant Cordero from district 7 to clean the section behind the Pearl Harbor Best Buy location. The efforts are needed as much of this trash sits along the Pearl Harbor waterfront and ends up in the ocean. The more activation and restoration we can create on this path the cleaner and safer it will be for our community. It’s a beautiful community path that runs along the Pearl Harbor Bay and is the longest stretch of a bike path made for pedestrians and bicycles off the streets.
