City and County of Honolulu and Hawaii Water Environment Association (HWEA) are teaming up to bring educational workshops for stormwater quality Best Management Practices (BMPs) to protect our waters for life.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
***DEADLINE EXTENDED to March 31, 2019***
The hands-on and interactive workshop sessions offer you the latest how-to information and best practices for compliance with all aspects of the new Water Quality Rules. A major focus will be on post-construction best management practices and the role of the Certified Water Pollution Plan Preparer.
TOPICS
- Permanent post-construction BMP design, construction, operation and maintenance
- Erosion and sediment control BMPs inspections
- Local case studies of permanent post-construction LID BMPs
- Permitting challenges for LID BMPs
- MS4 permittees challenges and lessons learned (local and mainland experiences)
- LID BMPs pilot studies
- Total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) and drivers for LID BMP implementation

The Hawaii Water Environment Association (HWEA) will provide funding up to $3000 to support Civil Engineering undergraduate research projects on wastewater topics supervised and approved by an engineering faculty for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. The student or students, working with faculty, must prepare a three-page research proposal and email to the HWEA Research Committee for possible approval.

We will be joining Chi Epsilon in cleaning the area around the University. Tools and supplies will be provided. Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Call for Proposals for Funding of Projects/Activities by HWEA for FY 2019
Do you have an idea for a community project or program but are not sure how to fund it? HWEA is looking for bold, innovative ideas for new project and activities for FY 2019. HWEA will provide funding up to a total of $60,000 to support projects or activities consistent with its mission/goals that would benefit the association and/or its members. There are few limits on possible winning ideas. Multi-year proposals will also be considered.
The deadline for the proposal submission is 4:30 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

All projects receiving funding will be required to participate as poster presenters in the HWEA/AWWA Pacific Water Conference at the Hawaii Convention Center on February 20-21, 2019. This will be a project description – the project(s) are not expected to be completed for this poster.

December 1, 2018: Awards announced
February 20-21, 2019: Poster presentation at Pacific Water Conference
September 31, 2019: Expenditure of project funds completed
