The HWEA Collection System Committee and the Western Chapter of the North America Society for Trenchless Technology (WESTT) held an exciting and informative joint conference on November 20 and 21, 2019. The half-day Pre-Conference was held on November 19 with tours of the CCH-CSM Baseyard in Halawa (observation of various types of equipment, and demonstrations of sewer pumping, smoke testing, and CCTV of sewers) and the new Kapolei Business Park sewage pump station with its newer technology horizontal mounted dry pit submersible 100-HP pumps from Flygt which was attended by about 30 people.
The main conference on November 20 was held at Ko’olau Ballrooms/Conference Center in Kaneohe which is a great venue. There were a record attendance of 250 conferees and 20 vendor displays. The food was excellent and there was a Pau Hana mixer with door prizes – Lance Manabe won the flat screen TV. The post-conference all-day trainings by WESTT on November 21 was held at Hyatt Place in Waikiki and was attended by about 75 people. The program consisted of two sessions: New Installation Methods, and Rehabilitation Methods. Thank you to the Collections Systems Committee led by Jon Nishimura for an excellent conference.
