I am deeply saddened to share the passing of a long-time HWEA member, great engineer, and mentor, Peter Ono, who passed away in July.

Peter Ono was the 2003-2004 HWEA President, serving on the HWEA Board from 2001 to 2005, and 2008 to 2011 as the National Director. He also co-chaired the 19th Annual HWEA Conference in 1997, served on the Reuse Conference Committee and was inducted into WEF’s 5S Society.

Through Peter’s endless contributions to our industry, he will be remembered, and his legacy will live on forever. Mahalo Peter, to your service to HWEA and the Hawaii community. Please keep Peter’s
family in your thoughts.

Since this is my last message as President, this article is a giant THANK YOU to everyone who has worked so hard volunteering their time, energy, and efforts toward HWEA activities and initiatives. This goes out to members and non-members (administrative staff, spouses, family, friends, and others) who work on HWEA tasks directly or indirectly. In addition to your labor and services, I want to thank those who support us through individual, public, and private company funding, donations, and other resources. Even though your efforts and donations are provided without any thought of recognition, I apologize that we cannot recognize everyone. I hope you realize that you are a much appreciated and vital part of our association, and in this way you are helping to improve our environment.

Thank you to the members of the various HWEA committees, especially the chairs, co-chairs and vice-chairs. Through your efforts the association is able to achieve its goals. Also, thank you to the executive board, which supports the committees, for all your hard work and dedication.
