HWEA will be the organization of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals
recognized for preserving and enhancing the water environment in the Pacific Island Region.

The 2022 City and County of Honolulu Stormwater Quality BMPs Workshops, held August 25 and 26 at the Hawaii Convention Center, were a great success!

The Hawaii Water Environment Association (HWEA) extends our warmest mahalo to HWEA Stormwater Committee Co-Chairs Jay Stone and Phil Potter for serving on the planning committee for the workshops, as well as our partners at the City, our 14 sponsors and 9 exhibitors. The workshop planning committee is a year-long process with twice monthly meetings to execute a successful event.

The two-day workshops featured over 50 speakers in three tracks. The workshops brought together over 200 in-person and over 250 virtual attendees in a synchronous hybrid format, which provided a consistent attendee experience no matter how people choose to participate. Those who attended the virtual sessions live could participate in in the Q&A chat with the speakers and other attendees. With the virtual sessions available on-demand, attendees no longer miss a session overlapping with another. The virtual platform also allows attendees to participate according to their own schedule and reduce their environmental impact by attending virtually.

The workshops concluded with a networking pau hana. Our annual community service event was held at the Ala Wai Golf Course where workshop attendees removed litter from permanent stormwater BMPs at the site.

Mahalo again to all our attendees, sponsors, exhibitors and planning committee members – we hope to “see” you all again next year!
