Imagine a Day Without Water (IADWW) is a campaign intended to emphasize the value, essence, and vitality of water in our lives. In 2019, the US Water Alliance and DigDeep identified that there are two million individuals in our country who lack access to clean and safe drinking water and sanitation services.
On October 21, 2023, the City and County of Honolulu organized a local event that celebrates and captures the objective of the IADWW campaign. More than 15 city, state, and community organizations came together and presented fun and educational interactive activities for the public, such as rain barrel workshops, freshwater fishing license renewal, xeriscape plan craft and making genki and seed balls. The event was held at Wahiawa Freshwater State Recreation Area.
The HWEA Public Outreach committee participated and put together a booth at the event with an activity that educates about aquifers. A lot of kids and adults were also drawn to the “quiz wheel”, where they had the fun opportunity to spin the wheel, answer a water related trivia question, and win candy prizes.
