The Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair (HSSEF) is an annual science fair held to showcase the innovation and research performed by students in middle schools and high schools across the state. HWEA participates in special awards judging, to identify and award high school students whose projects prove exemplary in the field of water environment research. These regional winners have been invited to submit their projects to the State Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) competition to further showcase their work at a state level, with potential of advancing to the national, and international SJWP competitions.

The Waikīkī Aquarium celebrated its 118th birthday on Saturday, March 19, and HWEA was there to help shell-ebrate! The aquarium outfitted us with an o-fish-all event bucket, tongs and refreshments and sent us on our way. Our small group was able to gather safely to help collect litter along Kapiolani Park and the magestic Waikīkī coastline. The event saved over 100 pounds of trash from potentially getting into the ocean. Hope to Sea you at the next event!
